Drop Impact

Since the beginning of the 20th century, with continuous improvements in high-speed imaging technology, many beautiful scenarios which are unseen in the past due to limitations of the human eye have attracted worldwide attention. There are some characteristic flow patterns such as corona splashing, central jetting, bubble entrainment, vortex ring development and etc., symbolizing the natural, pure, and flawless quality, have been used to do commercials and shown on postcards. More importantly, these flow patterns indeed inspire scientists in studying the interactions of liquid-air phase so as to develop a wide variety of industrial applications, including ink-jet printing, spray painting and coating, crop spraying, precipitation prediction, as well as the enhancement of dissolved oxygen.
